Week 3 Monday 14th February Room 21
Our heroes from Week 2 were; Laryce, Brydie ,Heathcliff and Ofa. They have set a very high standard of behaviour and effort and started the year with a real determination to succeed.
This week our class Value is initiative…. Taking the lead both individually and as a class/group member. Our ‘Heroes ‘ will be people who use their initiative with the class and school.
This week our class is hosting Uniece Kim. Kim is from Gongju National University in Korea and is here to observe in our school. We are hopeful that she can share some cultural aspects with us, we also welcomed Jstyce to our class, we now have 22 pupils, eleven boys and eleven girls.
Most Friday afternoons for the remainder of the term Matua Te Haeare will be teaching in Room 21, he will be teaching the children PEd, Te Reo and written language. We welcome him into our classroom and are delighted that he is able to participate in Room 21.
Holly Strong has prepared and emailed the class/parental contact list to you, I have attached a printed copy for your reference. Holly worked extremely hard to complete this list for us. Thankyou Holly.
Over the next two weeks the children will be asked to bring a sharing bag to school, this bag should contain items of importance which can be shared with the class; items might include: photos, toys, keepsakes, memorabilia, clothing etc. These talks will be held early each morning so you are welcome to stay and watch. A practice session at home the evening before the class sharing would help ensure they are more confident in front of their peers.

You also need to practice counting forwards and backwards in 2’s to 50, then if you become experts try counting up to and back from 100 in 2’s, remember to write these in your homework book.

Homework 7th February
Homework Newsletter Name _____________________
Monday 5th February
As from next week our weekly newsletter will be published on our blog and paper copies will only be given to those who do not have access to the blog at home. It is my hope that children will quickly become the authors of this newsletter and that it will reflect some of the work undertaken in the classroom.
Drink Bottles The children all need to have a drink bottle at school. These should be names and can be stored in schoolbags or on the cloakroom shelf.
Library Our library sessions will be on Wednesday so please check that books are packed for returning each Wednesday.
Homework
Homework books are to be returned to school on Fridays for marking.
Reading The children are expected to read independently each night and to share this reading with you, then to record this reading on a simple table. Most weeks the children will be given a journal for reading, this journal must be returned to school on a daily basis. (Some children will be given the responsibility of selecting their own recreational readers.)
Please bring a favourite personal reader to school tomorrow-Tuesday.
Maths We will learn all the tables on a two week rotation. The children will be pretested at school and a post-test will be held every Friday. The children who gain the max score and are the biggest improvers will have their names published in our weekly newsletter.
We are all relearning the +2 tables this week.
Spelling
This week the children are to fill the first few pages of their spelling notebook with family names….addresses, holiday place names etc . (Please check that these have been correctly spelt.)
A class/parent contact list often proves useful for parents and children from within the class, if you wish to have your name, email address and phone number circulated to our Room 21 parental group please forward your details and I will circulate them to you.
